Town twinning
The joint municipality and the town of Neuenhaus maintain friendly and twinned relationships with the municipalities of Boussy-Saint-Antoine in France, Zelów in Poland and Gyermely in Hungary. The council of the joint municipality of Neuenhaus would therefore like to realise at least one visit to each partner municipality during each term of office.
Boussy-Saint-Antoine in France
Boussy-Saint-Antoine, 25 kilometres south-east of Paris, lies on the Yerres river, whose course forms a mirror-inverted "S" in the town, and on the edge of the Sénart forest (3,000 ha). The town belongs to the Essonne district in the Ile de France region. The population is around 7,980 people (as of 01/01/2021), who call themselves Buxaciens or Buxassiens. The municipal area covers around 2.9 km². The name of the town has Latin roots (Buciacum). After the French Revolution, the town was officially called Boussy Saint Antoine.
Mayor Romain Colas was elected to office in 2008 at the age of just 28. He was the youngest mayor in the Essonne district to date.
Following regular school exchanges between Boussy-Saint-Antoine and the town of Neuenhaus Neuenhaus since the end of the 1970s, the partnership was officially formalised in 1990 with the signing of the twinning document. Why not visit our partner municipality at www.ville-boussy.fr
Zelow in Poland
Zelów is located approx. 50 km south-west of Lodz. The settlement of Zelów was founded in the 13th century. The first documentary mention dates back to 1402. 7,459 inhabitants live in Zelów (as at 31 December 2020). The municipal area covers 16 km².
After intensive contacts had developed over the previous years, particularly through the German-Polish Society, the intention to work together was officially agreed in 1993. The partner municipality can be found on the Internet at www.zelow.pl.
Gyermely in Hungary
Gyermely is a small municipality with around 1,600 inhabitants and is located around 30 kilometres from the capital Budapest. The municipality covers an area of approx. 45.47 km2.
The Reformed congregation in Gyermely has maintained friendly contacts with the Old Reformed congregation in Veldhausen since 1991. Since then, there have been a number of exchanges, mainly in the youth sector. As the partnership was already on a good footing thanks to the long-standing relationship and in order to facilitate European funding opportunities for further cooperation projects, Gyermely requested an official partnership in the political sphere. This wish was brought to the attention of the Neuenhaus joint municipality via the church in Veldhausen, and the Neuenhaus joint municipality council agreed.
In November 2010, the twinning certificate was signed in Gyermely in a moving ceremony in the decorated community centre with great participation from the local population. In 2012, the German partnership certificate was signed during a return visit. You can reach the municipality of Gyermely via the Internet at www.gyermely.hu
