The joint municipality of Neuenhaus is located on the western border of Lower Saxony - in the district of Grafschaft Bentheim.
It stretches around 9 kilometres wide and 20 kilometres long from the Dutch border to the district of Emsland. Since the merger in 1974 as part of the regional reform of the state of Lower Saxony, the joint municipality has included the member municipalities of Esche, Georgsdorf, Lage, Osterwald and the town of Neuenhaus, where the administrative centre is also located. With a total of around 14,700 inhabitants, the joint municipality of Neuenhaus belongs to the so-called "Niedergrafschaft" of the district of Grafschaft Bentheim.

The mayor of the joint municipality
On 25 May 2014, Günter Oldekamp (non-party) was elected mayor by the citizens of the joint municipality. His first term of office began on 01.11.2014 and ran until 31.10.2021. At the local elections on 12 September 2021, Günter Oldekamp was re-elected as joint municipality mayor for a second term of office from 01.11.2021 to 31.10.2026. However, Günter Oldekamp has been employed by the Neuenhaus administration for over 40 years; his training at the town hall began in 1978. Günter Oldekamp is married and has 2 children.
As mayor, he is the political representative of the joint municipality to the outside world and head of the joint municipality administration. He is the superior of all employees and is responsible for the proper fulfilment of administrative tasks. He regulates the internal organisation of the administration. He chairs the meetings of the joint municipal committee and has the right to vote in both the joint municipal committee and the council of the Neuenhaus joint municipality.
It also prepares the meetings of the joint municipal council, the joint municipal committee and the specialised committees and implements political resolutions.
Günter Oldekamp is also the part-time town manager of the town of Neuenhaus. The honorary mayor of the town of Neuenhaus is Carl-Hendrik Staal.

- Take the A 30 motorway, exit "Bad Bentheim" Then turn onto the main road (B 403) and follow it via Nordhorn to Neuenhaus
- the Emsland motorway (A 31), Wietmarschen exit via the country road (L 45), district roads (K3, 12, 23)
