Fountain in Neuenhaus decorated for Easter again

Councillor Gerrit-Jan Zwafink has found a book on this custom, "Fränkische Osterbrunnen" (Franconian Easter Fountains), published by BVB-Verlag. The book by Claudia Schillinger describes the traditions and customs surrounding Easter fountains. As the name suggests, Easter fountains are often created in connection with water sources or taps.

You can read about this in the book:

"... droughts and epidemics that germinated in polluted water threatened people's lives for a long time. Recognising that life was impossible without clean water, people placed themselves in the care of the gods and asked for the abundant flow of the life-giving element every spring!"

Hard-working children and teachers from the Johannes daycare centre in Prinzenstraße have once again set to work this year, creating fantastic Easter decorations by hand. After the building yard and Günter Klümper's team had procured the fir greenery, the bows were (almost traditionally) tied by Rainer Hendriksen and Norbert Riekhoff. On the Tuesday before Easter, it was then set up and decorated by a number of councillors and other volunteers. Many cyclists often stop and enjoy the sight with their children over a delicious ice cream from the "Eis Genuss" ice cream parlour. City director Günter Oldekamp praises the commitment and is delighted that this beautiful custom is continued every year by volunteers.
